 THE FY20 IDEAS GRANT COMPETITION FOR U.S UNIVERSITIES


The FY20 IDEAS grant competition is now open! U.S. colleges and universities can apply for up to $35,000 to create, expand, or diversify their outbound study abroad programs and/or resources.


The Capacity Building Program for U.S. Study Abroad, also known as IDEAS (Increase and Diversify Education Abroad for U.S. Students), is designed to increase and diversify American student mobility in support of U.S. foreign policy goals.


The program expands the institutional capacity of higher education institutions (HEIs) to Increase and Diversify Education Abroad for U.S. Students through IDEAS Grants, IDEAS Incubator Workshops, and capacity building initiatives for the wider U.S. study abroad community.


WHO CAN APPLY?

The IDEAS (Increase and Diversify Education Abroad for U.S. Students) grant competition is open to accredited U.S. institutions of higher education physically based in the United States or its territories with a broad range of capacity to administer study abroad programs, including institutions that currently have limited or no experience administering study abroad programs as well as those with established programs.


SELECTION PARAMETERS

U.S. higher education institutions will be selected for this opportunity based on the following:


A clearly articulated plan that builds institutional capacity to create, expand, and/or diversify the population of American, primarily undergraduate students who study abroad and/or the destinations where they study;

A plan for study abroad program sustainability after grant funding ends;

A monitoring and evaluation plan that tracks key data points regarding student and destination diversity, establishes benchmarks, and has measurable objectives;

A realistic budget that demonstrates cost effectiveness;

Clear and substantive alignment with and incorporation of U.S. foreign policy goals listed below and in the RFP;

Commitment to participating in capacity building activities and active engagement in community networks.

The program will also offer U.S. colleges and universities opportunities to participate in a series of study abroad capacity building activities, both virtual and in-person, to help create, expand, or diversify their study abroad programs. See here for more details and workshop registration.


The IDEAS grant competition and capacity building initiatives are open to all accredited U.S. colleges and universities. The program seeks to engage the full diversity of U.S. higher education, including community colleges and Minority Serving Institutions.


The Capacity Building Program for U.S. Study Abroad is a program of the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and supported in its implementation by World Learning.
