Nominations are now open for the Roux Prize 2021. The Roux Prize seeks to honor individuals or groups from around the world who have used health evidence in bold, innovative and impactful ways.

David and Barbara Roux established the Roux Prize in 2013 to reward innovation in the application of disease burden research. The prize recognizes the person who has used health evidence in bold ways to make people healthier – and to highlight just what’s possible when visionaries use health evidence to change lives.
 
 

Award


    The prize is valued at $100,000 USD and is for the personal use of the recipients.
    An award citation and a medal will also be presented.

 

Eligibility


    Nominations are welcomed from across the globe.
    Preference is given to individuals, but groups are eligible.
    Self-nominations are discouraged.
    Current full-time faculty, fellows, or employees of IHME and the University of Washington are not eligible.

    Nomination statement (1000 word limit): The nomination statement should express why you feel this candidate is deserving of the Roux Prize. The strongest nominations will be those which:
        Describe the scope and relevance of the problem addressed by the nominee.
        Describe how the candidate used evidence to improve population health. Please include specific examples that highlight the importance of the evidence for achieving the outcome, and highlight the breadth and significance of the impact on the population.
        Describe the nominee and the context in which they performed their work, including any barriers or obstacles they had to overcome to achieve the outcome.
        Describe any innovations the nominee implemented in their use of evidence.
        Describe how the prize would benefit the nominee.
        Optional: Supporting materials. You may provide any documents which provide evidence of the nominee’s achievements and in particular highlight how the nominee used evidence to improve population health and/or the magnitude and relevance of the impact of the nominee’s work. These could include peer-reviewed articles, media publications, letters of support, etc. (5 maximum)

Worldwide Fund (WWF) Professional Development Grants ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Applicants must meet all of the following eligibility criteria to be considered for a grant. Specific eligibility criteria for the February 1, 2021 deadline is included below. Please confirm you meet all eligibility requirements before applying. Approval of online or locally based trainings and conferences is up to the discretion of EFN.

  • You must be a citizen of an eligible country.
  • You must currently be living and working in your home country.
  • You must have at least three years of paid work experience in a conservation-related field in your home country.
  • You must have applied to or already be accepted to participate in the proposed training at the time you submit your application.
  • Your current work and proposed training must help advance conservation in your home country.
  • You must not be enrolled in an academic degree program. Virtual courses that are part of a university degree program or online degree are not eligible.
  • You must have approval from your employer to participate in the proposed training and the promise of continued employment.
  • You must have a bank account in your own name that can receive US dollars and international wire transfers.
  • You must not have received funding from EFN in the past. Previous PDG recipients may be eligible for Alumni Grants.
  • The proposed training must take place at least 60 days after the application deadline.
  • You must submit all required documents by the application deadline.

 

Additional Criteria for February 1, 2021 Deadline

  • Only trainings and conferences that are available online or are locally based are eligible. Locally based courses are eligible if they require limited travel and follow national COVID-19 restrictions.
  • Trainings and conferences must be offered through an accredited institution.
  • If the proposed training requires an application, you must have already applied to or be accepted to participate at the time you submit your application.
  • Courses must be completed no later than November 1, 2021.
  • For online trainings or conferences, applicants must have a stable internet connection for coursework and a computer.
  • For online trainings or conferences, applicants must meet the minimum requirements designated by their course.
  • For online trainings or conferences, priority will be given to courses with a defined start and end date or “live sessions”.

Courses and expenses that will NOT be eligible:

  • Online courses that are part of a university degree program or online degree are not eligible.
  • EFN will not fund in-person trainings or travel that occurs outside the applicant’s home country.
  • Entirely free courses with NO associated fees will not be considered.
  • EFN will NOT cover the cost of a computer purchase.

APPLICATION PROCESS

All applicants must complete an application by one of the deadlines noted below. The proposed training must take place at least 60 days after the application deadline to allow EFN time for review, selection, and processing of the grant. 

  • February 1, 2021 – ONLINE or local trainings/conferences only
  • May 1, 2021
  • August 1, 2021
  • November 1, 2021

Individuals may submit an online application at any time. Completed applications will be reviewed on the dates noted above, and applicants will be notified of the results within one month after the application deadline.

For the February 1, 2021 deadline, the following costs will be considered at the discretion of the EFN program: registration fees and tuition for virtual trainings and conferences, required books, required materials (e.g. headphones, computer camera, notebooks), required temporary licenses (e.g. GIS, excel), limited travel within home country, and Wi-Fi costs.

How to Join the Generation Connect Visionaries Board 2020

How to Join the Generation Connect Visionaries Board 2020 is the overarching initiative of the ITU Youth Strategy on the journey to World Telecommunication Development Conference 2021 (WTDC-21) and the WTDC-21 Generation Connect Global Youth Summit. The three pillars of the Youth Strategy are: Empower, Engage and Participate.

The Generation Connect Visionaries Board will be assembled as part of the efforts related to the implementation of the ITU Youth Strategy to further champion the voices of youth to advance digital development. Two ITU representatives, six nominated high-level appointees and six nominated youth experts/young people, will work together on a voluntary basis1, over a period of a year – 2021, to achieve the board’s strategic objectives.

 

  • r strategic guidance on youth participation and empowerment.
  • To identify and invite strategic partners to ensure youth engagement and youth participation in digital cooperation.
  • To advocate for meaningful youth engagement in digital cooperation, through different promotional activities, such as active social media campaigning and inspirational role model talks.

Deliverables

The key deliverables expected of the Generation Connect Visionaries Board include the following:.

  • Clear strategic guidance to the ITU on the implementation of the ITU Youth Strategy.
  • New partnerships with high-level partners, youth organisations and boards.
  • Strong awareness of WTDC-21 Generation Connect Global Youth Summit amongst board members’ own networks.
  • Successful and meaningful youth engagement before and during the WTDC-21 Generation Connect Global Youth Summit.

Generation Connect Visionaries Board 2020 Selection Criteria

The ITU will select board members for the Generation Connect Visionaries Board, based on the following criteria:

  • Active champion for youth engagement, empowerment, and participation.
  • Passionate and active involvement in digital cooperation and youth engagement.
  • Ability to offer strategic guidance and collaborate with the ITU for one year and support in the review after the one year has been completed.
  • Affiliated with at least one youth related organisation, network and/or initiative (local, national or international).
  • In 2021, willing to participate in promotional activities such as interviews, social media, webinars, and panel sessions.
  • Commitment to attend the four board meetings that will take place in 2021, before the November WTDC-21 Generation Connect Global Youth Summit.
  • At least one nominee should come from WTDC-21 host country – Ethiopia.

Background / IRC Summary
IRC entered Nigeria in October 2012 in response to a widespread flood disaster. Since then, the IRC has expanded its scope and size of the programs as new areas became accessible after prolonged conflict and insecurity, in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States. The IRC’s response to the humanitarian situation includes integrated health and nutrition services, reproductive health care and women protection services, Environmental Health, Child Protection, Economic Recovery and Development, Education and General Protection. The country program has a five-year strategy action plan, 2015 to 2020, that is reviewed on an annual basis. IRC’s programming in Northeast Nigeria is supported by a team of more than 650 staff.

Scope of Work:

  • The Travel Assistant, under the supervision of the Senior Admin Officer, is responsible for all aspects of travel administration and supports IRC staff and visitors on travel services / bookings, visa and other related duties.

Major Responsibilities
Bookings:

  • Responsible for booking of both local and international commercial flights for IRC staff and visitor through IRC registered travel agents.
  • A focal person for UNHAS flight and cargo bookings.
  • Liaising with the travel agents in booking of accommodation outside Nigeria for staff going for conferences.
  • To update travelers on any change regarding Airline travel policy during ticket booking
  • As part of UNHAS flight booking requirement, prepare introduction letters for IRC visitors and IRC staff without ID cards.
  • Booking of hotel accommodation for IRC staff and visitors in Abuja.

Visa:

  • Assist the Snr. Admin Officer in processing visa application for IRC staff.
  • Support staff in getting visa application information.
  • Sending of Pre-Arrival information /Accommodation (Covid-19) isolation policy to new hires and visitors.
  • Sending of Covid-19 and Travel Protocols to all expats returning from leave and new hires

Payment and Reconciliation:

 

  • Processing payments of both local and international flight tickets issued by travel agents.
  • Liaise with the Administrative Assistant in reconciling of the Hotel payments
  • Reconciliation of payments made with both travel agents and Finance.
  • Reconciliation of UNHAS prepayment account and processing of replenishment after reaching spending / booking limit

Movement Plan:

  • Compile movement plan on daily basis (to cover weekends and holidays) and share with Supply Chain Focal Person by COB.

Tracking and Reporting:

  • To update trackers for all commercial flight bookings, and UNHAS bookings and Store same on Box.
  • Using reporting journal, send monthly report on UNHAS bookings to Finance.
  • Send monthly report on flight and accommodation payments to the Snr. Admin Officer.

Other Duties:

  • Any other duty as may be assigned by Supervisor.

Other Internal and / or external contacts.

  • External: UNHAS, Hotels, Embassies and Travel Agents

Qualifications
Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree in a relevant field.
  • Administrative & Logistics / Supply Chain qualifications highly desirable.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Prior experience of travel services & bookings, domestic and international flights desirable
  • Ability to adapt to changing work system and processes
  • Ability to work under pressure with  minimum supervision
  • Ability to work as part of a team and provide superior customer services.

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) wishes to inform the general public that the Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) for recruitment into the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) will hold on the 7th of December, 2020 in the 36 States of the federation and FCT.


Candidates are advised to check their email addresses and phone numbers for notification and venue for CBAT from 6pm on 1st December, 2020. All shortlisted candidates have also been assigned CBAT centres and are to report to the centres at the times indicated against their names to sit for the Test.


Candidates who applied for NIS should visit https://immigrationrecruitmentorg.ng to updated their educational records and print individual letters of invitation.


Candidates will not have access to any centre or session other than that allotted via email addresses and phone numbers. Therefore, candidates are to note the specific sessions and time for the examination as stated in the notification message for strict compliance. The Vlisco Fashion Fund supports emerging designers and tailors in the process of establishing a career in fashion.

We share knowledge, give access to an expanded network, and help emerging fashion talent with skill-strengthening and brand-development for their African fashion labels.




Requirements:

African fashion designers, 20-30 years of age, living in or outside Africa.
Applicants must be able to design and sew their own clothes.

Criteria

Selected applicants are invited for an interview and sewing test, after which 3 candidates are chosen as finalists per country category.


Those finalists are given an assignment to complete, which is judged by an international panel of fashion professionals. Seven winners are chosen, one from every country category: Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ivory Coast, DRC, Ghana, and ‘Global’ which includes the rest of Africa and the diaspora.

Prize:

Vlisco Fashion Fund winners receive career funding of €5000 to invest in new equipment, to help finance the set-up of a studio, or to otherwise facilitate business growth. Each winner will also be invited to participate in professional training workshops.
